AIAA to Assume Publication of Air Traffic Control Quarterly
AIAA has agreed to assume publication of Air Traffic Control Quarterly (ATCQ), currently published by the Air Traffic Control Association, effective January 1, 2016. ATCQ will be renamed the Journal of Air Transportation (JAT).

AIAA Mourns the Death of Frederick C. Durant III
AIAA mourns the death of Frederick C. Durant III, former president of the American Rocket Society (which merged with the Institute of the Aerospace Sciences to create AIAA), from 1953 to 1954; former president of the International Astronautical Federation, from 1953 to 1956; former governor of the National Space Club, 1961; and former assistant director of astronautics at the National Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C., from 1965 to 1981. Durant was 99 years old.

AIAA Mourns the Death of George E. Mueller
AIAA mourns the death of George E. Mueller, AIAA Honorary Fellow, past president of AIAA, former associate administrator of NASA’s Office of Manned Space Flight, former president and chairman of the System Development Corporation, and former CEO of Kistler Aerospace, on October 12, 2015. Mueller was 97 years old.

AIAA Foundation Announces Winner of its Undergraduate Individual Aircraft Design Competition
Arthur Brown, a student at the University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, has won the AIAA Foundation’s Undergraduate Individual Aircraft Design Competition. He will receive a prize of $500.00.

AIAA Congratulates Alan Mulally on Election to International Air & Space Hall of Fame
AIAA Honorary Fellow and Past President Alan Mulally has been elected to the International Air & Space Hall of Fame. Mulally will be inducted into the Hall of Fame during an evening ceremony on November 19 at the San Diego Air & Space Museum, San Diego, California.

Narayanan Komerath Wins 2016 J. Leland Atwood Award
Narayanan Komerath, an AIAA Associate Fellow, and professor of aerospace engineering in the Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia, has won the 2016 J. Leland Atwood Award

Joshua Rovey an AIAA Associate Fellow, and Associate Professor of aerospace engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T), Rolla, Missouri, has won the 2016 Lawrence Sperry Award.

It has been a busy summer for all of us! Our members were busy at our three summer forums: AVIATION, Propulsion and Energy, and SPACE. If you did not make it, be sure to visit the forum websites to explore what happened as well as to keep up with current events in those topic areas. Our Board met twice, and in September made some significant decisions that will have positive long-term impact on the Institute. Our TCs, PCs, and Standing Committees continued their important work; and our regions and sections hosted scores of exciting programs and events. The AIAA community is involved in many different areas of the industry. There are a few areas that I wanted to highlight for those of you looking to get involved in some of the many things going on around the Institute…

AIAA Marks National Aerospace Week
AIAA is marking National Aerospace Week by thank all aerospace professionals for their efforts to shape our world as we know it.
“From the Wright brothers achieving powered flight, to Chuck Yeager breaking the sound barrier, to the triumph of the Apollo 11 mission, to the Space Shuttle era and the International Space Station, Americans have long been captivated by all things air and space," said AIAA President Jim Albaugh.

Aviation Week Invites AIAA Members to Participate in Aviation Week’s “Jobs, Pay, Careers and More” Webinar
Aviation Week will hold a webinar on Wednesday, 16 September 2015, at 1:00 p.m. EDT, to review the results of their recent Workforce Study. The three leaders of the Aviation Week 2015 Workforce Study will review key data that should be of interest to employees, including jobs, pay, and which companies are doing a great job of meeting employee needs. They are also expected to provide insight into what organizations and individuals can do specifically to prepare for the aerospace and defense industry of the future. Speakers include Jim Adams, vice president of PwC's Strategy; Clarke Havener, global A&D leader at Korn Ferry; and Carole Rickard Hedden, executive editorial director of Aviation Week Executive Intelligence.
