After a nearly two-decade career ferrying astronauts into space, Endeavour began its final mission Tuesday as the centerpiece of a long-awaited museum exhibit paying tribute to California's aerospace industry and the American shuttle program. Elected leaders, NASA officials and astronauts joined hundreds of schoolchildren and space fans for a ceremony commemorating the opening of the shuttle display at the California Science Center. The ceremony came about three weeks after thousands of spectators stood along sidewalks and cheered as the shuttle made its way to the science center from Los Angeles International Airport along the streets of Los Angeles and Inglewood. Endeavour, named by U.S. schoolchildren after a British sea vessel, flew its final mission in May 2011. (Image Credit: NASA)
