The ESA said it had determined that the GOCE satellite fell into the Atlantic between Antarctica and South America, a few hundred miles from the Falkland Islands, with no known damaged caused. An estimated 25% of the satellite hit the Earth’s surface, with most burning up in the atmosphere as predicted. Noteworthy was the fact that even as it broke up, GOCE was generating useful data. And, the satellite’s fall brought the mission more media attention than it received while it was operating. (Image Credit: ESA)
