Orbital Sciences Corporation successfully launched its Cygnus cargo spacecraft aboard its Antares rocket at 1:07 p.m. EST Thursday from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport at Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia. Cygnus is now traveling 17,500 mph in Earth's orbit and is expected to reach the International Space Station on Sunday, 12 Jan., for the Orbital-1 cargo resupply mission, the first of eight commercial cargo missions that Orbital will make to the ISS under its contract with NASA.
