Defense News reported that the U.S. Air Force issued a request for information (RFI) for a “booster propulsion and/or launch system materiel options that could deliver cost-effective, commercially-viable solutions for current and future National Security Space (NSS) launch requirements.” According to the article, it is clear that the Air Force is looking for an alternate to the Russian-made RD-180 rocket engine used on some American rockets today.
