    AIAA Executive Director Search

    The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), the world’s largest and most influential aerospace technical society, is searching for its next Executive Director. AIAA seeks a dynamic, visionary leader known for their contributions to the industry. The new leader will bring strong management skills, critical thinking abilities and the capacity to guide the organization through a series of governance, programmatic, and philosophical changes to its business and operational models.

    The Executive Director is one of the President’s and Board’s key strategic advisors.  As such, the new Executive Director will be skilled in strategic thinking and planning, particularly when it comes to meeting the Institute’s key priorities, growth objectives, goals, and challenges.  This individual directs and participates with the AIAA Institute and Foundation Boards in the strategic planning process.  The Executive Director also works with both Boards to establish performance requirements and metrics that guide each of those Boards in their roles to monitor and evaluate the organization’s performance toward those goals.

    The ideal candidate is a proven leader with 10+ years’ experience as a senior executive within an organization of comparable size and complexity. Also, candidates should have a scientific or technical background and demonstrated notable contributions that have earned s/he distinction and recognition within the aeronautics/astronautics profession. Candidates must have experience being a visible leader in the industry and possess excellent communications and public speaking skills. Candidates must be able to interface with a diverse set of stakeholders. i.e. corporate executives, Institute membership, senior government officials, donors, etc. and have the capacity to identify and develop creative solutions.
