William Piper General Aviation Systems Graduate Award
This program was instituted in 1985 by the Air Breathing Propulsion Technical Committee in honor of Gordon C. Oates. Eligible applicants will be participating in research endeavors in air breathing propulsion as part of their graduate studies. Official recognition and presentation of the check to the recipient will be made in conjunction with the Awards Presentation Ceremony at the AIAA/SAE/ASME/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference. In addition, the AIAA Foundation will present the recipient with a special recognition plaque in honor of this award.

- Notes: Vlad Popescu received his Engineering Degree (2009) with a concentration in Applied Mathematics from the Ecole Polytechnique, France, after attending preparatory courses at the Lycee Louis le Grand in Paris (2004-2006). He is currently pursuing a PhD in Aerospace Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA. His professional experiences include the French aerospace research center Onera (2009) and the European public-private entity SESAR Joint Undertaking, responsible for air traffic infrastructure development (2010). He is interested in applying controls, dynamical systems, and game theory to air transportation
