Introduction To Space Flight
Dr. Francis J. Hale is an Emeritus Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at North Carolina State University (NCSU). Before joining NCSU, Dr. Hale had an active career in the Corps of Engineers and the US Air Force. In the Air Force he was a rated pilot and served as the Deputy Director of the THOR and MINUTEMAN weapon systems and as Professor and Head of the Department of Astronautics at the US Air Force Academy. He has also served as a Visiting Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey, as the first civilian Visiting Professor of Mechanics at the US Military Academy, and as a Secretary of the Navy Fellow and Visiting Professor of Aerospace Engineering at the US Naval Academy. In addition to the text for this course, he is the author of three other engineering textbooks. Dr. Hale is an Associate Fellow of AIAA, a member of the Order of Daedalians and other professional societies, and is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of North Carolina. He has a BS from USMA and an SM and ScD from MIT. He has been inducted into the AF Missiles and Space Hall of Fame.
