Dr. Nassim Nicholas Taleb is a best-selling author and a Distinguished Professor of Risk Engineering at New York University’s Polytechnic Institute, whose work primarily focuses on problems of randomness, probability and uncertainty. Taleb's 2007 book, The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable was described in a review by the Sunday Times as one of the twelve most influential books since World War II. This theory has since become known as the "black swan theory." Taleb has authored other best selling books including, Antifragile: Things That Gain from Disorder, and Fooled by Randomness: The Hidden Role of Chance in Life and in the Markets, among others.
