AIAA TO HOST “COMPLEX AEROSPACE SYSTEMS EXCHANGE”
New Event to Examine Complex Systems Issues Such as Minimizing Cost Overruns and Delays

January 10, 2012 – Reston, Va. – The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) is pleased to announce that it will host a new event, the “Complex Aerospace Systems Exchange” (CASE), September 11–13, at the Sheraton Pasadena, Pasadena, Calif.

CASE is aimed at promoting collaboration between aerospace chief engineers, program managers, and system engineering professionals. The exchange will address some of the most complex questions surrounding aerospace today, including minimizing cost overruns and delays, and mitigating late test failures. Insights, best practices, and lessons learned will be offered by recognized practitioners in each of these areas. Specific areas of analysis will include: complex systems development; integration, test and verification of complex systems; and program management of robust and resilient systems.

The executive chair of CASE is AIAA president-elect Michael Griffin, former NASA administrator, and King-McDonald Eminent Scholar and Professor at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He stated: “CASE presents attendees with a departure from the traditional AIAA conference, as the event will emphasize interactive collaboration among attendees that will maximize the exchange of ideas and best practices to complement our traditional technical sessions. We are excited to offer this event to the aerospace community, and are confident that it will generate the groundbreaking ideas that are needed to further progress in our community.”

The general chair of the event is Laura McGill, chief engineer, Air Warfare Systems, Raytheon Missile Systems. The program chairs for the event are Allen Arrington, Siera Lobo Inc.; Paul Collopy, UAH Center for Systems Studies; and Abdi Khodadoust, The Boeing Company.
