47th AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference
Structures and Materials for the Next Generation of Aerospace Vehicles – Evolution or Revolution?
The 47th Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference is sponsored by AIAA, ASME, ASCE, AHS, and ASC. This established conference is a widely acknowledged annual event that provides a unique forum dedicated to the latest development in the collective disciplines of structures, structural dynamics, materials, design engineering, and survivability. This year’s conference will also host the 14th Annual Adaptive Structures Conference, the 7th Annual Gossamer Spacecraft Forum, the 2nd Annual Multidisciplinary Design Optimization Specialist Conference, and the 1st Non-Deterministic Approaches Conference. Plenary presentations will be given by well-known, forward-thinking, invited speakers focused on the theme of near-term and long-term progression of structures and materials technology for the next generation of aerospace vehicles—looking at the correct mixture of evolutionary and revolutionary ideas that will enable future manned and unmanned aircraft and spacecraft.
14th AIAA/ASME/AHS Adaptive Structures Conference
The Adaptive Structures Conference, sponsored by AIAA, ASME, and AHS, will be held in conjunction with the 47th Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference. The Adaptive Structures Conference is the chief conference focused on the advancement of adaptive structures technology and its application to aerospace systems. This conference brings together basic and applied researchers from diverse disciplines; as such, the range of relevant topics is quite broad. Please join researchers from the United States and the world at this premier conference on Adaptive Structures.
7th AIAA Gossamer Spacecraft Forum
Gossamer spacecraft technology enables a paradigm shift in design, launch, and operation of space flight systems. Spacecraft with structural characteristics optimized for operation in space, combined with the ability to collapse into small packages for launch, yield order of magnitude reductions in mass, launch volume, and life-cycle cost of large space flight systems. The objective of the Gossamer Spacecraft Forum is to provide an opportunity to discuss recent research findings and newly proposed concepts emerging from this technology.
2nd AIAA Multidisciplinary Design Optimization Specialist Conference
Multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) focuses on optimizing the performance and reducing the costs of complex systems involving multiple interacting disciplines, such as those found in aircraft, spacecraft, automobiles, industrial manufacturing equipment, various consumer products, and on the development of related methodologies. MDO is a broad area that encompasses design synthesis, sensitivity analysis, approximation concepts, optimization methods and strategies, artificial intelligence, and rule-based design—all in the context of integrated design dealing with multiple disciplines and/or subsystem interactions.
8th AIAA Non-Deterministic Approaches Conference
Non-Deterministic Approaches (NDA) are becoming the preferred evaluation method in the presence of uncertainties. These approaches, which include both probabilistic and non-probabilistic methods, have high payoff potential for analysis and design of aeronautical, aerospace, and other structures applications as well as nonstructural and emerging technologies. Based on fast-growing interest in this discipline, AIAA is building upon the success of previous Non-Deterministic Approaches Forums by offering a comprehensive new conference on Non-Deterministic Approaches in conjunction with the 47th Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference.
Student Paper Competition
The Student Paper Competition is supported by student abstracts submitted for the Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference as well as all of the conferences and the forum hosted by it. The Student Papers will be presented during regular sessions and will be suitably recognized. A limited number of students will receive recognition for their papers at the Conference Awards Luncheon. The student author(s) of the best paper will receive the Jefferson Goblet Award. All student awards will be selected on the basis of paper quality and the effectiveness of their presentations. Authors will be notified of paper acceptance by 29 November 2005 after an external review performed by volunteer reviewers who are researchers in the field. Final Manuscripts are due to AIAA by 15 March 2006. Student Papers Technical Chair Gregory A.
