Download 2007 GNC/AFM/MST Call For Papers Brochure Download 2007 GNC/AFM/MST Preliminary Program Brochure The AIAA Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C) Conference is a forum providing the latest developments in GN&C technology, with a unique focus on theory and applications in aeronautics and astronautics. It offers an environment for presentations and discussions about theoretical advancements as well as the implementation issues required for the transition of new technology to operational systems. This year’s technical program includes many sessions in the areas of control theory analysis and design, GN&C concepts in air traffic control systems, and multivehicle control. Other technical areas addressed in this year’s conference include spacecraft GN&C; autonomous and unmanned systems; aircraft GN&C; guidance, navigation, and tracking theory and analysis; missile GN&C; guidance and control of hypersonic and reusable space launch vehicles; multidisciplinary control; multisensor data fusion, tracking, and control; intelligent control in aerospace applications; and general aviation and small aircraft transportation GN&C. The conference will also include a graduate student paper competition in which winners will receive financial assistance for attending the conference and will present their papers in a special session for the competition and in a regular professional session.

The AIAA Atmospheric Flight Mechanics (AFM) Conference provides a forum for presentation and discussion of all technical areas related to atmospheric flight. It brings together on an international level experts from industry, government, and academia. Presentations will cover the topics of aircraft dynamics, unsteady and high angle-of-attack aerodynamics, flying qualities, system identification, aerospace vehicle flight testing, projectile and missile dynamics, unmanned aerospace vehicles, reusable launch vehicles, and reentry and aeroassist vehicles. These technical sessions consist of formal presentations followed by an informal discussion. They are intended to serve as a platform to bring together experts and interested people, not only to discuss technical aspects, but also to cultivate professional relationships. Best Atmospheric Flight Mechanics Student Paper Competition
Winner Receives Certificate and $500 Award courtesy of Calspan.
The AIAA Atmospheric Flight Mechanics (AFM) Technical Committee, with the support of Calspan Corporation is sponsoring a Best Student Paper Competition at the 2007 AFM Conference. Entrants will be judged by Technical Committee members, and the winner will receive a certificate and $500 award to be presented at the conference awards luncheon. To be eligible for this award, the student must be the primary author of the paper and the work must have been performed while under student status. The student author must also:
- Be a member of AIAA.
- Present the paper at the conference.
- Indicate “Student Paper” at the time of electronic draft manuscript submittal (1 February 2007; see submittal guidelines above).
- Send an electronic copy of the final paper by 6 July 2007 to the competition administrator, Dr. Agamemnon Crassidis (E-mail:alceme@rit.edu, phone: 585/475-4730).
- Along with the final paper, include a cover letter from his/her advisor stating that the student did the majority or a significant amount of the research.
Students will present their papers twice: on the first day of the conference for judging so that the award may be presented at the awards luncheon, and then during a regular technical session in an appropriate technical topic area. Students should submit their draft manuscripts online to an appropriate, regular technical session (i.e., Aircraft Dynamics, Aircraft Flying Qualities, etc.) according to the conference guidelines above. At the time of submittal, students should additionally check the “Student Paper” option to indicate that the manuscript is also being submitted for consideration in the Student Paper Competition. Students will be contacted by a conference organizer to confirm their participation in the competition. Students should submit their final manuscripts to the conference technical session per the guidelines above, and should additionally send an electronic copy of the paper to the competition administrator for judging. Note that the deadline for submitting to the competition administrator is earlier than the conference final manuscript deadline. The scoring for the award will be equally based on written paper content and audio presentation. The written paper will be judged on (1) relevance of the topic to atmospheric flight mechanics (see list of sample session groupings in this call for papers), (2) organization and clarity of the paper, (3) appreciation of the technical issues and sources of errors, and (4) meaningful conclusions of the research. The audio presentation will be judged for overall presentation clarity with (1) background and problem definition statement, (2) explanation of the technical approach, and (3) research results.
