2009 AIAA International Student Conference Awards
|
|
The 2009 Regional Student Conference first-place undergraduate, masters, and team winners will compete 4 January 2010 for the 2009 AIAA Foundation International Student Conference awards. These papers, judged by AIAA professional members, have been deemed the best student papers for this year. Support the students as they present their papers again to a larger audience. Information about the papers can be found in Session 27-NSC-3 Undergraduate Division, Session 25-NSC-1 Masters Division, and Session 26-NCS-2 Team Division. The student winners will be announced at the AIAA Foundation International Student Conference Reception and honored at the Awards Luncheon.

2010 Dryden Lectureship in Research
|
|
The 2010 Dryden Lectureship in Research will take place on Monday, 4 January, 1730–1830 hrs. The Lectureship emphasizes the great importance of basic research to advancement in aeronautics and astronautics and is a salute to research scientists and engineers. It is named in honor of Dr. Hugh L. Dryden, renowned leader in aerospace research programs. The lecture will be given by D. Ian Poll, Professor of Aerospace Engineering, School of Engineering, Cranfield University, Great Britain.

2010 von Kármán Lectureship in Astronautics
|
|
The 2010 von Kármán Lectureship in Astronautics will take place on Wednesday, 6 January, 1730–1830 hrs. The Lectureship honors an individual who has performed notably and distinguished himself/herself technically in the field of astronautics. It is named for Theodore von Kármán, world famous authority on aerospace sciences. The lecture will be given by Eileen M. Collins, Col USAF (Ret.) and former NASA Astronaut.

2010 William Littlewood Memorial Lecture
|
|
The 2010 William Littlewood Memorial Lecture will take place on Tuesday, 5 January, 1730–1830 hrs. The Lectureship honors an individual who has made contributions to the field of civil air transportation which are considered of current interest and major importance. The lecture will be given by N. Albert Moussa, President of Blaze Tech Corporation, Cambridge, Massachusetts.

6th Annual Public Policy Luncheon
|
|
This year’s luncheon has invited Dr. John Holdren, Director of the Executive Office of the President’s Office of Science and Technology Policy. The address, Harnessing the Nation’s Resources to Retain Our Aerospace Leadership, will provide the Administration’s perspective on federal policies designed to enable the U.S. to retain its superiority in aerospace sciences and technology, and deliver some insight into the President’s blueprint for moving the aerospace sector forward and develop the workforce resources required to meet those demands. The Public Policy Luncheon will be held on Wednesday, 6 January, 1200–1300 hrs.

AIAA Associate Fellows Dinner
|
One hundred ninety-five Institute members will be inducted as AIAA Associate Fellows during the AIAA Foundation Associate Fellows Dinner, which will be held Monday, 4 January, 1930 hrs. Each year, the Institute recognizes exemplary professionals for their accomplishments in engineering or scientific work, outstanding merit, and contributions to the arts, sciences, or technology of aeronautics or astronautics. Please support your colleagues, and join us for the induction of AIAA’s Associate Fellows class of 2010. Tickets to this prestigious event are available on a first-come, first-served basis and can be purchased via the registration form on page 6, or on site for $75, based on availability. Business attire is requested.

Beginning with Keynote Speaker Mr. Jim Skakoon, author of “Unwritten Laws of Engineering”, the morning sessions are focused on personal development topics and activities focused on enhancing your career. The afternoon sessions shift to workforce development topics and activities to develop and grow the aerospace workforce for the near and long term. If you are interested in laying the foundation for your next career move or in helping cultivate the next generation of aerospace engineers, this is the workshop to attend.

Wednesday, 6 January 1930 hrs Are you prepared to work with 30 smiling students and inspire them to learn more about aerospace and the work of an engineer? Learn how to:
- Connect your work to classroom objectives; Plan memorable experiences
- Use simple and clear vocabulary
- Engage with hands-on experiences, such as setting up a test flight line for gliders, paper airplanes, and straw rockets

There will be a reception honoring those presenting the Dryden, Littlewood, and von Kármán lectureships Tuesday evening from 1830–2000 hrs in the Exhibit Hall. There will also be a reception in the Exhibit Hall on Wednesday evening from 1830–2000 hrs.
