Education Alley

Discover What's Out There! Education Alley returns to the AIAA SPACE 2009 Conference & Exposition, giving students and teachers a sensational opportunity to learn more about space. Precollege students will attend presentations, view exhibits, and talk with engineers about why they became part of this exciting industry. Supported by the AIAA Precollege Outreach Committee, Education Alley will feature displays from invited organizations like NASA, the U.S. Air Force, NOAA, and Lockheed Martin, and include special sessions, tours of the main exhibit hall, and hands-on demonstrations that will show students what opportunities the space program could provide for them in the future. Sponsors of this year’s Education Alley are The Aerospace Corporation, The Boeing Company, SpaceX, Raytheon, and Wyle. Conference attendees are invited to join in with the students to see what’s new and exciting!

Engineers As Educators Workshop

Are you prepared to stand in front of 30 smiling fourth grade students and help inspire them to learn more about aerospace and the work of an engineer? Attend this workshop on Monday, 14 September, and you’ll walk away armed with tools to help you plan and execute powerful classroom presentations to excite young 21st century explorers. You’ll learn how to: - Connect your work to classroom objectives
- Start and end with memorable experiences
- Use simple and clear vocabulary
- Build hands-on experiences into your presentations such as setting up a test flight line for gliders, paper airplanes, and straw rockets Discover how to teach the engineering design model to children, connecting it to the “scientific method.”
This workshop provides multiple handson activities that demonstrate simple engineering and are ready-made for classroom experiences. Come prepared to try your hand at methods that will engage and inspire the next generation of engineers.
