6th Annual Joseph A. Hartman Student Paper Competition

This research competition seeks to capture the very best ideas concerning technical solutions, economic and policy analyses, methodologies, and processes that work towards reducing aviation noise and emissions exposure through source reduction technologies, alternative fuels, operating procedures, compatible land use management, and policy implementation.
Awards Prize money may range from a maximum amount of $5,000 for an excellent contribution to $200 for honorable mention. The judges reserve the right to allot the prize money to best fit the quality of the submitted papers. The winners will also be provided with travel support to participate in an award ceremony at a location and date to be announced.
Submissions The Partnership for AiR Transportation Noise and Emissions Reduction (PARTNER) seeks submissions of undergraduate and graduate level student technical papers relating to the reduction of aircraft noise and/or emissions. Of particular interest are papers describing research in these areas:
• socio-economic effects of noise and emissions • operational measures for noise and emissions reduction • compatible land use management • gaseous and particulate matter emissions and mitigation • climate and air quality effects of aviation emissions • alternative fuels • aviation environmental policy • aircraft and engine design for environment
Paper Submittal Rules and Agreement Please be aware that the AIAA "Rules and Reminders" displayed during the submission process do not apply in this event, since they pertain only to papers that will be presented at AIAA conferences or published in AIAA publications. By submitting a paper to the competition, the author(s) consent to the terms and conditions stipulated in the Joseph A. Hartman Student Paper Competition Rules.
Submit a Paper Submittals will be accepted electronically at the AIAA web site from September 2009 through January 2010. The system will allow for file upload in the following formats: Word, WordPerfect, Text, RTF, and PDF. Authors having trouble submitting reports electronically should email AIAA technical support at: paper_tech_support@aiaa.org.
Notification Process A panel comprising experts associated with the PARTNER Center of Excellence from academia, industry, government, and non-governmental aviation environmental organizations will judge the papers. Winners will be notified on or before 1 April 2010.
