The 46th Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials (SDM) Conference is sponsored by AIAA, ASME, ASCE, AHS, and ASC. This established conference is a widely acknowledged annual event that provides a unique forum dedicated to the latest development in the collective disciplines of structures, structural dynamics, materials, design engineering, and survivability. This year's conference will also host the 13th Annual Adaptive Structures Confer-ence, the 7th Annual Non-Deterministic Approaches Forum, the 6th Annual Gossamer Spacecraft Forum, and the 1st Multidisciplinary Design Optimization Specialist Conference. Plenary presentations will be given by well-known, forward-thinking, invited speakers focused on the theme of Bringing SDM Technology to Practice.
Adaptive Structures Conference The Adaptive Structures Conference, sponsored by AIAA, ASME, and AHS, will be held in conjunction with the 46th Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials (SDM) Conference. The Adaptive Structures Conference is the chief conference focused on the advancement of adaptive structures technology and its application to aerospace systems. This conference brings together basic and applied researchers from diverse disciplines; as such, the range of relevant topics is quite broad.
Non-Deterministic Approaches (NDA) Forum During the past six years, the NDA Forum has become a popular venue for the communication of non-deterministic methodologies for both structural and nonstructural applications. NDAs are becoming the preferred evaluation analysis method in the presence of uncertainties. These approaches have high payoff potential for analysis and design of aeronautical, aerospace, and other structures applications, as well as nonstructural and emerging technologies.
Gossamer Spacecraft Forum Development of gossamer spacecraft technology will enable a paradigm shift in the design, launch, and operation of space flight systems. Spacecraft with structural characteristics optimized for operation in space combined with the ability to collapse into a small packages for launch will yield order-of-magnitude reductions in mass, launch volume, and life-cycle cost of large space flight systems. The objective of the Gossamer Spacecraft Forum is to provide an opportunity to discuss recent research findings and newly proposed concepts emerging from this technology.
Multidisciplinary Design Optimization Specialist Conference Multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) focuses on optimizing the performance and reducing the costs of complex systems involving multiple interacting disciplines, such as those found in aircraft, spacecraft, automobiles, industrial manufacturing equipment, various consumer products, and on the development of related methodologies. MDO is a broad area that encompasses design synthesis, sensitivity analysis, approximation concepts, optimization methods and strategies, artificial intelligence, rule-based design, and physical programming-all in the context of integrated design dealing with multiple disciplines and/or subsystem interactions.
