Space Launch Integration: Maintaining Excellence Download 8th SLI Announcement (PDF) Synopsis Co-hosted by the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), the 8th NRO/AIAA Space Launch Integration Forum will provide opportunities for space professionals to investigate new technologies, processes, practices, lessons learned, and other integration solutions that will enhance mission success. The theme of this year’s forum, Space Launch Integration: Maintaining Excellence, will encourage dialogue and collaboration among industry, academia, and government engineers, operators, and decision-makers about issues currently affecting the industry. Forum attendees will exchange information, review ongoing studies and results of completed efforts, and explore new concepts related to space launch system integration and technology. Invited speakers and panelists will provide a unique perspective on key issues, setting the stage for continuing discussion throughout the year. Background The series of NRO/AIAA space launch integration workshops and forums has addressed current and emerging space launch systems, as well as the technologies and tools that our community must develop to meet the launch and mission integration requirements of today and the future. The goal is to make the use of space launch systems more efficient, effective, and standardized in meeting customers’ diverse and complex requirements. Progress will be paced by innovation and business considerations, as well as technology readiness. Action and collaboration are needed to ensure that the necessary tools and technologies are available. Topics at previous forums have included comparisons of government and commercial integration practice, innovative integration approaches relevant to new launch systems, impact on integration practices of new management systems (e.g., the United Launch Alliance) and new technologies (e.g., Web-based analysis and processing), work-force issues, and the implications of new Department of Defense policy directions. Presentation Topics AIAA and the NRO will invite presentations on topics related to space launch integration in an evolving environment. Presentations at this year’s forum will be in the following topic areas: - Advanced launch vehicle propulsion technologies and systems
- Innovative tools and techniques for interface risk identification and mitigation
- Advanced mission integration concepts and practices
- New tools and techniques in launch processing and operations
- Integration lessons learned from recently flown missions
The technical program committee will invite and select papers for presentation at the forum that embody high quality and relevance to the community. Emphasis will be on topics that document advances in technology and system development, highly innovative concepts, strategic planning initiatives and policy analyses, and other matters of high interest and value to the participants and the NRO. Authors of invited presentations will automatically receive an invitation to the forum.
