Salutes the Aerospace Industry’s Drive to Push Boundaries and Tackle Seemingly Unsolvable Problems

July 14, 2017 – Reston, Va. – The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) celebrated National Aviation Day today on Wednesday, 19 August, the anniversary of the birth of Orville Wright. This day honors all who work in aviation and aerospace, and commemorates the sacrifices of the early aviation pioneers who first dared to prove that powered flight was possible.

“Today we celebrate National Aviation Day – the birthday of Orville Wright, who along with his brother Wilbur, proved that heavier-than-air, manned flight was possible,” said AIAA President Jim Albaugh. “Had they not done that, had they listened to their critics, the world certainly would be a much different place. While today we celebrate an industry that has brought the world closer together, transformed our lives, and helped create so much of what we take for granted – we also are celebrating the resolve to push boundaries, the will to tackle the seemingly unsolvable problems of our day, and the ingenuity to accomplish the unimaginable. AIAA salutes all who are part of the aerospace community and thanks them for their steadfast commitment to develop solutions to our world’s pressing technical challenges, regardless of how impossible they seem.”
