STTC STUDENT DESIGN COMPETITION
The Space Transportation Technical Committee sponsors the annual AIAA Undergraduate Team Space Transportation Design Competion. The top three teams receive $2500, $1500 and $1000 prizes.
During the 2008-2009 academic year the design challenge is for a Commercial Orbital Transportation Services (COTS). The goal of this projectis to design a transportation system to provide a COTS solution for servicing the ISS. The transportationsystem will have the capability to transport both cargo and crew between Earth and the ISS. The specific requirements for this project are adapted from NASA requirements for the COTS program.
Letters of Intent for this competition are due 3/13/09 and the Proposals are due 6/12/09. The Abstract, RFP and rules for entry can be found here. The winners will be announced in August 200.
The 2007-2008 academic year the design challenge was for a Commercial Lunar Space Transportation System (LSTS). The goal of this project was to design a commercial LSTS to provide NASA with commercial transportation services to the Moon, in the near-term while it constructs its Lunar Base, and in the long-term, to enable future, commercial Lunar services markets to be successful on the Moon.

2nd Place went to Team Daedalus - Virginia Tech.
