About the SCTC

In January 2002, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Technical Activities Committee (TAC) approved the formation of a new AIAA Space Colonization Technical Committee, under the AIAA Space and Missiles Group.

The mission of the SCTC is to promote the identification and development of advanced concepts, science, and technology that will support, enhance and enable permanent human presence in space.

  • SCTC Statement on Robust Implementation of Lunar Settlements (26 k)
Statement: The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Space Colonization Technical Committee (SCTC) has developed a position statement which recommends specific research, development, technology and engineering goals be implemented in order to establish a Moon base by 2015 and open new frontiers to human space exploration.

  • SCTC Recommendations for Robust Implementation of Lunar Settlements (34 k)
To implement the President’s Vision for Space Exploration, the United States must commit to the early establishment of a Moon base by 2015. This Lunar base will be an ideal testbed for opening new frontiers to human exploration by maximally employing commercial and private products and services. The AIAA/SCTC recommends that specific RDT&E goals be implemented. This will be accomplished by establishment of the scientific and industrial capabilities of a permanent Lunar settlement and development of the commercial revenue sources on the Moon.
