We have good news to report in many areas.

A new student chapter has been formed at Cal State Long Beach. Dr. Eric Besnard is the Facility Advisor. Ms. Ishimine McCullom represented the chapter at our Committee Meeting. We’d like to get all of the student chapters to attend, so we can provide help to them and ease the transition from college to professional life.

We have kicked off a new round of Young Professional activities under our new Young Professional Vice Chair, Laura Elbik. The Annual Holiday Young Member Social will be held in December, young professionals should watch their email for their invitation.

I’d also like to extend congratulations to Keith Comeaux of the Los Angeles Section for winning the Lawerence Sperry Award for 2000. Not only is this wonderful news for Keith, but it is also wonderful for the entire section as this was the first time that Los Angeles has nominated someone for this prestigious award.

We are looking toward the future of Aerospace, and that future is looking brighter than ever. Hiring is up, the Aerospace companies are looking hard for engineers and scientists of all types and levels of experience. The Los Angeles Section is determined to look forward into this new era, and to provide the opportunity to keep abreast of the rapidly evolving world of Aerospace, and to continue to provide the leadership that the LA Section has always provided. But to do this we need to have your feed back on the surveys that we have sent out. We also need to have volunteers to step forward to help just a little to help us provide the services that the Aerospace professionals need.

Congratulations to Keith Comeaux (Vice Chair Finance) and his new bride, Cecilia Yadao Cheng. They were married on September 16, 2000 at St. James Catholic Church in Redondo Beach, CA. Congratulations and best wishes for a wonderful marriage!

Congratulations to LA Pre-College Vice Chair, Annik Majamaki, and husband Ari as they welcome a new baby boy to their family. Nicklas Juhami Majamaki was born September 4, 2000 at 1:35 AM. He weighed in at 8 pounds 3 ounces and measured 21.5 inches in length. Both mom and baby are doing well. Congratulations and best wishes!
