AIAA New England Council Meeting Minutes 2005-06-06

    • Meeting called to order at 7:03 pm (late start because everyone caught in traffic jams).

    • Attendees: Ray Erikson, Jeanne Hartley, Caroline Lamb, Linda Fuhrman, Elise Erikson.

    • Treasurer's Report: (Treasurer not attending).

    • Budget and Audit Report to be completed by Charlie Wilson; Officers Roster to be submitted by Jeanne Hartley; Annual Report to be completed by Ray Erikson.

      • Nominate Section for Newsletter.

      • Nominate Section for Education Activities, Scholarship Fund.

      • Nominate Section for Website.

      • Nominate Section for Membership increase.

    • Caroline Lamb volunteered to be the new RAC Liaison Officer.

    • Linda Fuhrman reported on Space Day activities at Cambridge/MIT Science Fair. Will be participating in "Science Matters" program in October.

    • Jeanne Hartley, Pete Young and Ian Dargin participated in Science and Education workshop at Museum of Science. City of Boston has just eight teachers certified to teach science in high school. Next meeting scheduled for end of June.

    • Discussed educational outreach options. Suggested obtaining boilerplate presentations from national, NASA and Science Club for Girls to show as part of member visits to schools.

    • Voted to allow up to $400 for Doug Joyce's expenses over and above national reimbursement for his attendance at the Regional Leadership Conference (RLC), to be held in Tuscon, AZ (14-15 July).

    • Voted to provide $400 to Dan Caron to attend Space Foundation Teacher Liaison Program in Colorado, in exchange for manning a table at Daniel Webster Aviation Festival or giving a talk at an educator-oriented event.

    • Voted to send $150 check to Daniel Webster for Av Festival table.

    • Discussed Kristin Gleason request for aerospace engineering mentor at Bellingham High School. Ray Erikson will contact for more details.

    • Annual Meeting will be held at the Collings Open House on Sunday, 18 June. Plan is to set up tabletop display in mezzanine of main hangar and hold Annual Meeting change-of-command ceremony beginning at 11:30 am. Linda Fuhrman will make her presentation beginning at noon; will cover broad range of aerospace topics based on Draper programs and recent developments at NASA HQ on CEV. Linda will bring own laptop and projector; Jeanne Hartley has an action to provide backup audio/visual support for Linda.

    • Planning for next years activities, the council added the Mars Homestead Project by Mackenzie/Palaia for a briefing at MIT Thursday, September 14th. Discussion of Eclipse Jet as a possible presentation.

    • SpaceShipOne will be on display, and may fly, at Oshkosh this summer (July 25-31, 2005 EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2005, Oshkosh, WI www.airventure.org)

    • Jeanne Hartley mentioned her participation in planning for the Structures, Dynamics and Materials (SDM) Conference to be held in Newport, Rhode Island (our Section) next May.

    • Minutes were approved.
