AIAA New England Council Meeting Minutes 2005-09-12

    • Meeting called to order at 6:18 pm.

    • Attendees: Jeanne Hartley, Elise Erikson, Ray Erikson, Ian Dargin, Pete Young, Caroline Lamb, Mike Stein, Vik Kachoria.

    • Treasurer's Report: $4914.57 in checking (Treasurer not attending).

    • Officers Roster submitted by Jeanne Hartley; Annual Report submitted by Ray Erikson; Audit and Budget Report still to be signed by Charlie Wilson.

    • Eugene Niemi has requested $300 to form new student chapter at UMass-Lowell; Council agreed contingent upon Gene providing volunteers for Daniel Webster Aviation Festival.

    • Ray Erikson reported on Space Logistics Technical Committee meeting in Long Beach in conjunction with Space 2005, and on space logistics seminar at MIT. Space 2006 will make Space Logistics a major topic, including multiple paper session tracks.

    • Daniel Webster volunteers: Ray and Elise Erikson Saturday morning, Caroline Lamb Saturday afternoon. Sunday still uncovered. Jeanne Hartley will issue call for Sunday volunteers.

    • Cat III rebate request for display models approved: $500 budget. Ray Erikson detailed to select appropriate models for exhibition setups and lectures and order in time to support Daniel Webster event.

    • More Cat III money available. Ray Erikson took action to submit request for $1000 seed money to support organization of Space Logistics Mini-Symposium. If approved, Ray would organize.

    • Ray Erikson will solicit volunteers for Cambridge Science Matters and Team America Rocketry Challenge programs in newsletter. Pete Young to provide info.

    • Ray Erikson will look into plant visit to Nu-Cast in Manchester NH.

    • Elise Erikson suggested new series on failure analysis for newsletter, lectures. Pete Young suggested title for series, "It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time."

    • Pete Young will see about getting on the calendar with Museum of Science for Space Day program next May.

    • Next Regional Advisory Council (RAC) meeting will take place on 29 October at the New England Air Museum in Windsor Locks, Connecticut. Jeanne Hartley, Elise Erikson and Ray Erikson will attend.

    • Because Paul Simpson will be out of country for the next several months, an Honors and Awards Committee was formed consisting of Elise Erikson, Caroline Lamb, and Mike Stein. They will contact Westin to reserve space and nominate Distinguished Lecturers for submission by next Council meeting.

    • Minutes were approved.

    • Meeting was adjourned at 7:45 pm.
