AIAA New England Council Meeting Minutes 2006-06-05
- Meeting called to order at 6:00 pm.
- Attendees: Doug Joyce, Elise Erikson, Charles Wilson, Mike Stein, Gene Niemi, Ray Erikson.
- Treasurer's Report: $6973 in checking account. Of this amount, $900 is reserved for the New England Scholarship program, and $1072 is from Regional for a mini-symposium.
- Vice Chairman Doug Joyce has action to submit annual report and budget report to National by end of June so section qualifies for awards.
- Mr. Stein has action to submit nomination of Honors & Awards Banquet for Outstanding Section Activity Award.
- Mr. Erikson has action to submit nomination of Aerospace New England for Outstanding Newsletter Award.
- Plans for Annual Meeting on 24 June in place. Location: Eaton-Richmond Hall, Room 100. Time: Noon. Caterer set. Aircraft available for rides after presentation by Gene Austin.
- Col. Joyce has action to get Chair Award for Jeanne Hartley.
- Mr. Wilson has action to contact Rick DeMeis for information on gavel for Col. Joyce.
- Ms. Erikson has action to contact Mary Ellen for information on gavel for Col. Joyce, ensure he receives gavel at meeting.
- Council discussed plans for public policy forum. MIT, WPI, DWC, Draper Lab, MITRE, Skyworks, Jentec, FLUENT and other organizations have expressed interest in supporting this event. Consensus was reached that AIAA New England should plan joint symposium with Boston Chapter of ASM. Mr. Stan Abkowitz, CEO of Dynamet, is already arranging this kind of event to take place at the Watertown Arsenal sometime in the fall, with sponsorship by 7th District Congressman Edward Markey. Mr. Stein indicated he was fairly sure he could obtain participation by Rhode Island Senator Jack Reed.
- Mr. Erikson has action to coordinate efforts with ASM.
- The Council wants to support Young Professionals conference at Johns Hopkins in November.
- Mr. Erikson has action to determine how Region-I Director Tom Milnes wants us to support that event.
- Minutes were approved.
- Meeting was adjourned at 6:55 pm.
