DR. JOHN H. McMASTERS
Biography
A 27-year veteran of The Boeing Company, Dr. John McMasters is currently a program manager on the staff of the Ed Wells Initiative, a joint program between Boeing and the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace charged with enhancing the technical excellence of the SPEEA-represented Boeing Engineers. Dr. McMasters hold BS and MS degrees from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a PhD from Purdue University, all in Aeronautical Engineering.

Abstract:
The topic first examines the co-evolution of aero technology, airplane design practice, and aerospace engineering education in a broad, long term historical context. Second, discusses the emerging recognition that airplane design is a social activity that demands that as much attention is devoted to intellectual capital issues as has traditionally been directed toward technology and process advances.
