Charter:
The Air Transportation Systems Technical Committee (ATS TC) examines the impact of technological, operational, economic and political developments on the air transportation system. The effects of both internal and external events on the system are evaluated.
The Committee reports on these impacts through sponsored meetings, papers and articles in Aerospace America. Committee membership is drawn from all areas of air transportation, with emphasis on systems-level rather than technology-level expertise.
Areas of expertise:
Committee members have expertise in the following areas:
- Analysis and development of air traffic control systems
including policy, procedures and automation to increase ground and airspace capacity,
reduce delays, conserve fuel, and manage noise emissions
- Planning and design of airports, airbases, and airport systems
particularly airside, terminal and landside integrated operations,
and including capacity, noise and environmental impact factors
- Modernization of the air transportation infrastructure
including advanced communication, navigation and surveillance systems,
and their attendant policy implications and economic impacts
- Forecast and analysis of air transportation system changes
in response to new/changing domestic & global markets, the competitive landscape,
and new technology and operations
- Airline marketing and business practices
including airline consolidation, strategic alliances, revenue management techniques,
and the impact of hub & spoke operations on the industry and the traveling public
- Economic analysis of air transportation systems
including capital, operating and other costs, revenues and other sources of funds,
and return-on-investment
- Planning and scheduling
of airline and military airlift fleets, crews and operations
- Safety of air transportation
as affected by policy & regulation, operating procedures, aircraft design
and human factors
- Application of systems analysis techniques
to planning, evaluating and operating airlines and military airlift,
airports, and air traffic control systems
