DETC Five Year Goals

January 1996

  1. Define and Maintain Design Engineering Definition.
Maintain the generic flow chart of the Design Engineering process, definition, and identify positive CAD/CAM interfaces.
Inform, discuss and integrate with other TC's, educators, and engineering specialists.
Incorporate the definition and process of Design Engineering into the Design Guide.
  2. Promote and Advance Design Engineering and Design Engineering Education.
Use the AIAA public relations media.
    Sponsor technical sessions.
Emphasize Design Engineering Award and recipients.
    Sponsor a design competition.
Promote the Design Guide, especially for new members.
  3. Support Education For Design Engineers.
Maintain pressure to include open ended design problems and design competition in the engineering curricula.
Support and encourage K-12 students to take engineering preparatory courses.
Promote Design engineering with educational institutions and recommend the Design Guide for student usage.
Define the fundamental Design Engineering curriculum.
  4. Promote Integrated Product Development(IPD).
Encourage continuos product and process improvement for all products and companies.
Define and show that IPD is part of the generic Design Engineering process and is necessary for productivity improvements.
  5. Define The Interface With Design Engineering and Electronic Media.
Establish the requirements for and identify typical engineering data that is time consuming to obtain but is necessary to complete the Design Engineering Process.
Identify examples and the methodology that has reduced product development time.
