GTTC Background:

The Ground Testing Technical Committee (GTTC) is a technical committee formed through the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics AIAA to carry out those objectives of the AIAA pertaining to ground testing. Ground testing includes, but is not limited to, the duplication and simulation of aerodynamic and aerospace flight environments, and the testing of aerospace systems, subsystems and components in ground based testing facilities such as wind tunnels and shock tunnels, ballistic ranges, space environmental facilities, and engine and rocket test facilities. The GTTC membership consists of professional volunteers from Industry, Government, and Academia organized into SubCommittees, Task Subcommittees and Working Groups.

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Support and make positive contributions to the AIAA.
  2. Organize, direct and provide media for the timely dissemination of technical information
  3. Provide a technical conscience and consultation service for US Government and US industry.
  4. Provide recognition for significant technical contributions. Annual awarding of the AIAA Ground Testing Award is a firm commitment of the GTTC.
  5. Maintain active liaisons with other AIAA Technical Committees, AIAA staff offices, and affiliated working groups.
  6. Provide technical information to professionals, students, and other organizations as deemed appropriate by the GTTC Steering Committee.
  7. Foster and endorse means for the efficient use of resources that promote technologies germane to the scope as stated above.

ORGANIZATION:

  1. The GTTC is subdivided into two primary subcommittees designated as Aerodynamic and Propulsion. Each member of the GTTC is assigned by the GTTC Chairperson to one of these two subcommittees. In addition, in order to maintain connection with the space-based ground testing community, liasons are assigned with the Space Simulation and Dynamics Simulation Working Groups.
  2. A Steering Committee consists of the GTTC Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Secretary, the Chairpersons from each of the two primary subcommittees, and the Chairperson of the Conference Planning Committee.
  3. Additional subcommittees for membership, conference planning, honors and awards, publications, standards, and student activities are maintained by the GTTC Chairperson. Staffing these subcommittees is by GTTC Chairperson appointment. As deemed necessary, other subcommittees can be established by the Chairperson.
  4. Working Groups are formed with approval of the GTTC Chairperson to study specific problems of interest. Working Groups consist of GTTC members and invited non-GTTC members with specialist knowledge.
