SUBCOMMITTEE

CHARTER:
The
Membership Subcommittee is established and maintained by the GTTC to define
membership requirements, review new GTTC membership applications, and create a
list of prospective new members for GTTC consideration, both domestically and
internationally.
STRUCTURE:
The officers of this subcommittee are appointed rather than elected. The subcommittee is chaired by the GTTC Vice-Chairperson. The Vice-Chairperson of this subcommittee is the GTTC Secretary, and membership includes the Vice-Chairpersons of the Aerodynamics and Propulsion Subcommittees, as well as the Chair of the International Liaisons Subcommittee.
OBJECTIVES:
OPERATION:
The leadership of this subcommittee are appointed, and their terms coincide with the GTTC officer’s terms; hence they are two-year terms. The Chairperson of this subcommittee is the Vice-Chairperson of the GTTC. The Vice-Chairperson of this subcommittee is the GTTC Secretary. In the event that the Chairperson is unable to attend any GTTC meeting, the Vice-Chairperson will reside.
The Chairperson shall conduct the winter and summer membership meetings and shall keep the subcommittee membership as well as the GTTC Chair informed of all actions and communications.
Responsibilities leading up to the winter meeting include receiving new member applications for completeness and relevancy to the GTTC, and distributing applications to the subcommittee members for review.
Responsibilities at the winter meeting include leading the meeting by starting with a one chart overview of the subcommittee, presenting membership roll-offs, proposing any upgrades, discussing and voting on new members, presenting the new member list agreed on by the subcommittee to the GTTC for a final vote, and assigning new member mentors at the GTTC meeting.
Responsibilities after the winter meeting include informing the newly selected members in writing of their acceptance to the GTTC. Contact the new members to congratulate them on becoming GTTC members, provide background on GTTC member expectations, let them know where and when the next meeting is and identify their GTTC mentors. Initial contact is generally a short email (to be sent within one month of the winter GTTC meeting) followed by a more formal letter from the GTTC Chair. Responsibilities also include informing the membership applicants that were not selected to the GTTC via email, informing AIAA Headquarters and TAC of the new GTTC membership roster, soliciting current biographies from the newly elected members, soliciting updates to biographies from existing members, providing Membership Subcommittee minutes to the GTTC Secretary, providing new member information to the Publications Subcommittee for the GTTC Newsletter, providing input to the Steering Committee for the GTTC Annual Report to TAC, and providing updated member biographies to the current GTTC membership.
Responsibilities leading up to the summer meeting include notifying mentors of their mentees and their mentee’s information, and encouraging new members to participate as much as possible as an official GTTC member.
Responsibilities at the summer meeting include presenting the New Member Orientation presentation and personally meeting with the new members.
Responsibilities after the summer meeting include preparing for the next cycle of new member applications from AIAA.
The Vice Chairperson shall assist in conducting the winter and summer membership meetings. In the event that the Chairperson is unable to attend any GTTC meeting, the Vice-Chairperson will reside.
The Vice-Chairperson shall update the roster.
The general membership shall ensure that a membership balance/distribution between industry, government, and academic sectors, between Aerodynamics and Propulsion expertise, and between national and international representation will be maintained.
The general membership shall encourage new members to participate as much as possible as an official GTTC member.
The general membership shall provide relevant GTTC information requested by the new members.
