SECTION IV - AERODYNAMIC SUBCOMMITTEE
[Table of Contents]
CHARTER:
The Aerodynamic Subcommittee is established and maintained by the GTTC.
The subcommittee proposes to and
advises the Ground Test Technical Committee on programs, conferences, symposia,
special activities, position papers, and other matters pertaining to or having
relation to aerodynamic ground testing.
STRUCTURE:
The Aerodynamic Subcommittee is staffed by members of the GTTC. Staffing needs
are accommodated each year by the Membership Subcommittee in reviewing the
needs of the Aerodynamic Subcommittee in selecting new members. Normal tenure
on the Aerodynamic Subcommittee is four years.
The Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of the Aerodynamic Subcommittee serve one year terms. The Vice-Chairperson is elected annually by the members of the Aerodynamic Subcommitee at the winter GTTC meeting with the term of office beginning at the following meeting. The Vice-Chairperson then assumes the Chair position after a term of one year. The Subcommittee may elect other positions as required.
OBJECTIVES:
1. Promotes the advancement of aerodynamics ground testing
technology.
2. Promotes the development and maintenance of aerodynamics
testing capabilities in North America to achieve and maintain world leadership
in aerodynamics sciences.
OPERATION:
1. The Aerodynamic Subcommittee meets two times annually at
times and locations concurrent with the scheduled GTTC meetings.
2. The Aerodynamic Subcommittee presents a formal report at
each GTTC meeting.
3. The Aerodynamic Subcommittee accepts responsibility for organizing and hosting sessions germane to the scope of the GTTC in the technical programs of both the biennial AIAA Advanced Measurements and Ground Testing Conference and the annual AIAA Aerospace Sciences meeting. In addition, the subcommittee is responsible for sponsoring short courses in conjunction with these conferences.
4. The Aerodynamic Subcommittee actively supports, maintains
formal and informal liaisons (as appropriate), and reports on the activities of
groups, agencies, organizations and the like which are involved with aerodynamics
ground testing. The Supersonic Tunnel Association (STA), the Subsonic
Aerodynamic Testing Association (SATA) aspects of the ASME, and applicable
functions of NATO are typical examples.
5. Provide a representative to the GTTC Awards and Upgrades
Subcommittee.
