SOSTC Membership

The AIAA Space Operations and Support Technical Committee members are professionals engaged in space operations development, integration and management in the aerospace industry, NASA, DOD, other government agencies, and the academic community. Members of the SOSTC must also be AIAA members.

SOSTC Charter

The Space Operations and Support Technical Committee (SOSTC) is concerned with all aspects of civil, military, and commercial space operations and support, including direct and supporting operations, the systems and software affecting operations, and space operations and operational risk management. The SOSTC addresses all types of space operations, including manned and unmanned space operations from low Earth-orbiting to deep-space systems. It is involved with all phases of mission operations, including pre-launch and launch activities, early mission commissioning activities, on-orbit activities, cruise and encounter activities, post-landing activities, and end-of-life operations. The SOSTC likewise addresses space related operational support activities, including training, servicing, mission planning, flight dynamics, telemetry transmission, command and control, and data handling, processing, analysis, and
storage.


SOSTC Objectives

The objectives of the SOSTC are to:


· Ensure and maintain an active, continuous membership on the SOSTC which is representative of
the space operations and support community;
· Provide a significant and productive technical service for the AIAA and the space operations and
support community;
· Coordinate with the appropriate worldwide organizations and agencies within government,
industry, and academia to understand and influence activities in the field of space operations and
support;
· Create formal position papers on space support issues, on issues developed within the SOSTC, or
on specific space operations topic areas at the request of government organizations;
· Develop recommendations in support of congressional testimony and policy development
activities of AIAA;
· Lead an annual workshop on improving space operations;
· Organize, lead, or participate in space operations-related sessions at AIAA sponsored
conferences;
· Promote student interest through the development and selection of projects for the yearly student
design competitions;
· Contribute to the review and establishment of standards, guidelines, and best practices in space
operations and support;
· Enhance the networking of space operations and support professionals and offer a rewarding
experience for its members.
