MS 1001 Statodyne

MS 1001 Tail Sitter
MS 1001 The MS 1001 was a proposed in January 1955 as a tailsitter with a triangular arrangement of three wings (the upper one serving as a dorsal fin). The pilot stood for VTOL and lay prone for cruise. The annular inlet encircled the cockpit. Details of the landing gear are unknown.

MS 1001 Statodyne Tail Sitter
The MS 1001 Statodyne was a proposed in January 1955 as a tailsitter, with four legs unfolding from the fuselage, between the two wings and the upper and lower tail surfaces. The Statodyne used a unique propulsion system concept. MS 1001 Statodyne In order to use two Orpheus engines for vertical thrust without increasing the diameter of the fuselage, the engines were mounted vertically, each facing away from the other. The lower engine, fitted with an afterburner, was augmented by the upper engine, which exhausted upward into a bifurcated exhaust nozzle that vectored the thrust through 180° to add to the lower engine. Engine air intake was through tow side inlets that fed the engines through splitter ducts.
