The Chicago Tribune reports that The Boeing Company plans to acquire “longtime partner Aurora Flight Sciences,” which is working to develop autonomous aircraft that “could one day operate as air taxis” for Uber. Details on the deal, which is still being finalized, have not been released. During a conference call Thursday, Aurora Flight Sciences Founder and CEO John Langford described the acquisition as a chance to distribute the company’s technology to the world market. Boeing CTO Greg Hyslop said that “technology is moving us” in the direction of pilotless vehicles, and that Aurora would be “part of that picture.” He added that as the unmanned vehicle market “forms,” Boeing wants “to be there and we want to lead.” (Image Credit: Aurora Flight Sciences/YouTube)
