NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS), the next-generation rocket built to launch crewed missions beyond Earth orbit, has formally entered the preliminary design review (PDR) phase. The PDR is a critical step as it demonstrates the SLS design meets all system requirements, thus providing a green light to proceed with the detailed design. The review is expected to take several weeks to complete. SLS is currently on track to meet all milestones necessary to fly in 2017. (Image Credit: NASA)
