Scientists in the Pacific Northwest, and beyond, are expanding the use of drone technology. NOAA has employed an unmanned aircraft system in Washington to monitor marine environments. Current and future projects involve using UAVs to monitor crop health in Oregon, studying mammal and fish habitats, and for avalanche surveys and glacial monitoring.
