The Justice Department gave the green light to US Airways and American Airlines to join forces to become the largest airline in the world. The department dropped its challenge to the merger after the two airlines agreed to give up some of their takeoff and landing slots at a number of major airports. When the deal is complete in December, the merger will create the world’s biggest airline, with 6,700 daily flights to 336 cities in 56 countries, and 80 million passengers each year. The decision also will allow low-cost carriers such as JetBlue and Southwest to expand. (Image Credit: US Airways)
