NASA is beginning to receive confirmation of activation and normal operation for 11 “cubesat” research satellites, including the first developed by high school students. NASA Associate Administrator for Education Leland Melvin said that cubesats offer the nation’s best and brightest young minds the opportunity to discover the excitement of space exploration. The satellites are designed to operate independently, carrying separate, though miniscule, missions with some as small as 4-inches square. (Image Credit: NASA Ames Research Center)
