Mars One announced that Lockheed Martin will develop an unmanned vehicle based on NASA’s Phoenix Mars Lander, which Lockheed managed, for a mission concept study to Mars in advance of sending people there, thus proving people could live there by showing how water could be extracted from the soil. The unmanned vehicle is targeted to launch in 2018. Mars One, a not-for-profit organization that wants to turn the colonization of Mars into a worldwide reality TV show, is also working with Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd. to develop a demonstration satellite that could send a live video feed from Mars, as the Lander will have a video camera.
