U.S. military and intelligence sources confirmed to NBC News that the U.S. has evidence a Malaysia Airlines flight was shot down by a missile while flying at a high altitude over eastern Ukraine near the Russian border. Eyewitnesses on the ground reported seeing what looked like a missile, then an explosion in the sky. USA Today reported Malaysia Airlines said there were no distress calls from the plane. U.S. officials say they believe it was shot down. Meanwhile, The Washington Post reported on its website that Secretary of State Kerry issued a statement Thursday night saying the State Department was still reviewing whether any American citizens were on board.
