AIAA Foundation FIRST® LEGO® League Grant Program

To encourage and support AIAA members who coach middle school students in STEM subjects, The Boeing Company has generously provided grant funding for AIAA member-led teams participating in FIRST®(For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) LEGO® League.


Details


The FIRST® LEGO® Grant Program places a special emphasis on teams who have not yet participated in FIRST LEGO League competitions.


  • New teams can receive up to $500 to offset costs associated with FIRST LEGO League activities. Existing teams can receive up to $250 to offset costs associated with FIRST® LEGO® League Activities.        
  • There are no restrictions on how teams may use their grant funds. It can go towards covering the costs of challenge materials, travel expenses, team t-shirts, or anything else the team may need. 


Grant Application Process


The process for AIAA member-lead teams to receive a grant is easy as 1-2-3! 


  1. Teams register with FIRST® LEGO® League through its website.
  2. The AIAA member/coach applies for the grant through AIAA Foundation. Active AIAA membership is a requirement to be considered for this grant. The AIAA Foundation reviews applications and chooses teams to receive the grants.
  3. Teams receive a check in the mail, along with additional supplies provided by The Boeing Company and the AIAA Foundation.

Important Dates 


  • 11 May 2017: FIRST LEGO League team registration opens.
  • 1 June 2017:  AIAA Foundation grant application form available for registered teams
  • 1 August 2017:  AIAA grant application period CLOSES.
  • 1 August: FIRST LEGO League Mission Model Building instructions are released. Challenge sets begin to ship.
  • 29 August: FIRST LEGO League Global Challenge is released.
  • 15 September 2017:  AIAA Foundation grant funds are distributed to teams.
  • Early October:  Team registration closes.
