AIAA Governance

In spring 2016 members were asked to make their voices heard regarding changes to the AIAA Constitution and Bylaws. An overwhelming majority of members who voted (91.8%) supported the proposed changes put forth by the Governance Working Group (GWG) and other AIAA leadership, including the Board of Directors (BOD) and Blue Ribbon Panel.

As then-President Jim Albaugh noted in the letter announcing the results of the vote, “this marks a new beginning for AIAA,” and transition planning began immediately. What has happened since? The BOD and GWG have met twice since then to discuss the transition timeline and a Governance Transition Group (GTG) was established by the Board.

Transition to the AIAA new governance model began in May 2017. Details of the Governance Transition Plan from the existing Board of Directors to the new Council of Directors and Board of Trustees are available here. Thank you for your ongoing support and involvement!

2019 Ballot for AIAA President-Elect and AIAA Council of Directors

Voting opened 4 February, and closes 8 March 2019, 1500 hrs., EST.

The 2019 election marks AIAA’s second year following implementation of the new governance model. Members will be electing the AIAA President-Elect and director openings on the AIAA Council of Directors. The Executive Nominating Committee and the Council Nominating Committee have done an excellent job in developing a slate of outstanding candidates. Your job now is to carefully review the candidate statements and select whom you believe is best suited to lead AIAA.
