AIAA Constitution 3.2 
Honorary Fellows are persons of eminence in aeronautics or astronautics, recognized by a long and highly contributive career in the arts, sciences, or technology thereof.

AIAA Section 2.2 
Nominees for Honorary Fellow are to be Fellows of the Institute in good standing. The maximum number of Honorary Fellows that may be elected per year is 4, with no more than 3 from the same country. The most qualified nominees shall be submitted by the Honors and Awards Committee to the Board of Trustees for final approval. The Honorary Fellows nomination and selection process shall be established by the Honors and Awards Committee, specified in the Committee’s published policies and procedures.

All Honorary Fellow Nominations and Reference Forms are to be submitted through the AIAA Awards Online System. You may use the following word document for draft purposes only. Simply copy and paste the contents from the word document into the appropriate boxes in the online award system. Please be advised that there are word limits.

Important Dates

  • February: Announcement of new Honorary Fellows, Class of 2024 (Following approval by the AIAA Board of Trustees)
  • 10 February: Accepting nominations and reference/endorsements (online only)
  • 14 May: AIAA Honorary Fellows, Class of 2024 Induction Ceremony and Dinner, Washington, DC (invite only)
  • 15 May: AIAA Awards Gala, Washington, DC
  • 1 June: Nominations due (online only)
  • 1 July: References due (online only)
  • February 2024: Announcement of new Honorary Fellows, (Following approval by the AIAA Board of Trustees)
