William T. Piper, Sr. General Aviation Systems Graduate Award

Through its annual graduate scholarship program, the AIAA Foundation presents awards to graduate students doing excellent research in the air and space sciences. This scholarship was sponsored by the AIAA General Aviation Systems Technical Committee in honor of William T. Piper Sr (1881-1970), who founded Piper Aircraft Corporation. Official recognition and presentation of the check to the recipient will be made in conjunction with the Awards Presentation Ceremony at the AIAA AVIATION Forum. In addition, the AIAA Foundation will present the recipient with a special recognition plaque in honor of this award. Basic Criteria and other information can be found at <a href= >;

  • Notes: Phillip earned his undergraduate degree in aerospace engineering from Penn State University, and has been pursuing his graduate studies at the University of Illinois. He has earned an MS in aerospace engineering from Illinois and is currently pursuing his PhD under the advising of Prof. Mike Bragg. Upon completion of his PhD, Phillip will be conducting postdoctoral research at Illinois and plans on pursuing an academic career at a high research activity university
