HOME MISSION
SCENARIO
SAFETY VEHICLE KIT COMPETITION REQUIREMENTS REGISTRATION

Registration Deadline Extended Until 30 November 2016

PUNCH – Precision Unmanned Navigation and Cargo Handling – is a design competition for high school and undergraduate students. For the purposes of this competition, undergraduate refers to any student that is attending formal postsecondary education but has not received a bachelor degree.

The inaugural event will held in spring 2017. Because the event is a beta test of a program design, the competition will be limited to 10 teams. Teams will be selected based on their ability to attend the competition in Blacksburg, VA; a 1000 word essay on why their team should be accepted into the competition, and a statement as to their overall funding approach (vehicle and attendance).

PUNCH is a precision aerial package delivery competition with the goal of autonomously delivering package(s) to specified targets on the competition field. Competitors will deliver as many packages in a single flight as they are able. A timer will start and the vehicle will autonomously takeoff and start its package delivery to the specified target(s). There is a limited amount of time to complete all deliveries.

  • During the delivery, vehicles must be capable of:
  • Autonomously recognizing the target
  • Navigating to the target
  • Avoiding various obstacles located on the field
  • Dropping the package off
  • Returning to the takeoff/landing area

Points will be awarded based on delivery speed, weight delivered, delivery accuracy, and other objectives outlined in Scoring.
