Why We Do What We do

I was fortunate enough to attend the National Space Club’s Goddard Memorial Dinner on Friday, 22 March. My jaw dropped open as I listened to the keynote speech of AIAA student member Erik Lopez from the University of Illinois. Hearing his comments reminded me all over again of the power of the aerospace industry to reach out and inspire people.

All of the cool, high-tech, leading-edge projects we work on not only make a difference to our society, country, and world, but also on a personal level, to the lives of our young people. Erik won one of our design competitions, and I like to think that AIAA, through that award, helped to ignite the spark that will drive him to accomplish his dreams.

Please take a moment to watch this video and share it with your colleagues. Erik brilliantly communicates how our work fuels the human ambition to be part of something bigger than ourselves. We are all making an impact, whether we experience it personally or not!

The Goddard Keynote Speech is posted on  Click “Watch the Speech on YouTube” at the bottom of the page.
