    AIAA Aerospace Spotlight Awards Gala to Confer Multiple Honors

    In addition to the AIAA 2014 Reed Aeronautics Award and the AIAA 2014 Goddard Astronautics Award, the 2014 AIAA Aerospace Spotlight Awards Gala, taking place 30 April at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, will also confer the following honors:

    Dr. Michael I. Yarymovych to Receive AIAA 2014 Distinguished Service Award
    Honored for 60 years of Service to IAS, ARS, and AIAA
    Michael I. Yarymovych, AIAA Honorary Fellow, former AIAA President, and president, and chief executive officer of Sarasota Space Associates, Osprey, Fla., has won the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics’ (AIAA) 2014 Distinguished Service Award. Yarymovych will receive the award on April 30, during the AIAA Aerospace Spotlight Awards Gala at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, in Washington, D.C.

    Kathie L. Olsen to Receive AIAA 2014 Public Service Award
    Honored for Personal and Professional Commitment to the Advancement of Science
    Kathie L. Olsen, founder, ScienceWorks, Inc., Washington, D.C., and affiliate professor of neurosciences at the Krasnow Institute for Advanced Study, George Mason University, Fairfax, Va., has won the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics’ (AIAA) 2014 Public Service Award. Olsen will receive the award on April 30, as part of the AIAA Aerospace Spotlight Awards Gala at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, in Washington, D.C.

    Dr. John E. LaGraff To Receive AIAA 2014 International Cooperation Award
    Honored for Personal and Professional Commitment to the Advancement of Science
    John E. LaGraff, AIAA Associate Fellow, and professor emeritus, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Syracuse University, Syracuse, N.Y., has won the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics’ (AIAA) 2014 International Cooperation Award. The award will be presented on April 30, during the AIAA Aerospace Spotlight Awards Gala at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, in Washington, D.C.

    Dr. Arthur F. “Rick” Obenschain, deputy director, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, has won the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) National Capital Section’s 2014 Barry M. Goldwater Educator Award.     Honored for the Demonstration of the Feasibility of Sustained Air Breathing Hypersonic Flight
    The X-51A WaveRider team has won the 2014 American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Foundation’s Award for Excellence. The team will receive the award on April 30 at the AIAA Spotlight Awards Gala at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, in Washington, D.C.

    Abraham E. “Abe” Karem to Receive the AIAA/ASME/AHS/SAE Guggenheim Medal
    Honored for the Demonstration of the Feasibility of Sustained Air Breathing Hypersonic Flight
    Abraham E. “Abe” Karem, president, Karem Aircraft Inc., Lake Forest, Calif., has won the Daniel Guggenheim Medal. Karem will receive the medal on Wednesday, April 30, during the AIAA Aerospace Spotlight Awards Gala at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, DC.
