Award Honors Schaub’s Commitment to Excellence in Aerospace Engineering Education

December 6, 2017 – Reston, Va. – Dr. Hanspeter Schaub will receive the 2017 J. Leland Atwood Award at a 12:00 p.m. recognition luncheon on Thursday, 11 January, held in conjunction with the AIAA Science and Technology Forum and Exposition (AIAA SciTech Forum), 8–12 January, at the Gaylord Palms, Kissimmee, Florida.

The J. Leland Atwood Award recognizes Schaub, professor of Aerospace Engineering Sciences and director of the Autonomous Vehicle Systems (ASV) Laboratory, University of Colorado Boulder, for his innovation, elegance, dedication, enthusiasm, and impact as an aerospace educator. Beyond his excellence as a classroom instructor and research mentor, his influence extends to the wider aerospace community through top-quality distance education offerings, his popular and influential textbook Analytical Mechanics of Space Systems, and the prolific research productivity of himself and students in the areas of attitude dynamics and control, relative motion dynamics, electrostatic control, and debris mitigation. Dr. Schaub has worked extensively in the field of spacecraft dynamics, formation flying, attitude control, and space debris mitigation. A particular emphasis has been the study of charged astrodynamics and how to touchlessly control relative motion, as well as the modeling and control of complex spacecraft dynamics.
