Andrew Mang is the Chair of Industry and Alumni Relations for the Grand Challenges Scholars Program. As an early alumnus of the Program and its first graduate to serve on the Executive Committee, Andrew brings a unique perspective to the group’s leadership and is passionate about building multidisciplinary communities to solve society’s most pressing problems.

Andrew’s involvement with Grand Challenges started as a student, where he performed extensive lab and field research into water access issues in the developing world. After spending some time in tech, he decided to continue focusing on Grand Challenges and started a water engineering and sustainability consultancy in Kigali, Rwanda. His work across Africa has brought him to some of the most challenging business environments in the world and provided extensive insight into the on-the-ground realities of doing business in developing economies and post-conflict states.

Andrew’s passion for solving Grand Challenges extends beyond water access and sustainability. He served on the Executive Committee of the National Academy of Engineering’s COVID-19 Call for Engineering Action, where he unified stakeholders across academia, the private sector, and government during the early stages of the pandemic to help identify and incubate technology to mitigate the impact of the pandemic.

Andrew now works as an independent consultant in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he helps clients go-to-market internationally and optimize their business operations.
