AIAA Hypersonics 2020 Cancellation: Next Steps

Dear Hypersonics 2020 participants,

Thank you again for your understanding and patience as we have worked out the details for the 23rd AIAA International Space Planes and Hypersonic Systems and Technologies Conference – Hypersonics 2020 – hosted by the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute. As we consider future plans, our priority has been to enable the technical community to publish and share their research. To accomplish this, we have made the following decisions:

  • Technical presenters may publish their papers without presentation (see “Technical Presenters” information below for details) or may choose to withdraw their paper and present at another event.
  • All full conference registrants will have access to Hypersonics 2020 conference proceedings beginning 1 April 2020.

Technical Presenters
Authors whose papers have been accepted for presentation must select from one of two options by 2000 hrs EDT on Friday, 20 March. Designated presenters will receive an email notification from Lisa Le, LisaL@aiaa.org to indicate their decision within ScholarOne.

  1. Publish Paper Only: Authors may elect to publish their paper in Aerospace Research Central (ARC) without presenting. Papers will be published no later than 1 April.

  2. Withdraw Paper: Authors may withdraw their papers and resubmit them to the conference of their choice. All withdrawals MUST be completed by 2000 hrs EDT on Friday, 20 March.

    • Papers withdrawn and submitted to the 2020 AIAA AVIATION Forum, 15-19 June, in Reno, Nevada, will be automatically accepted and sessioned; papers presented at the AVIATION Forum will be published within the AVIATION conference proceedings.
If we do not receive a response: Presentations with no response after 2000 hrs EDT on Friday, 20 March will be published in the 2020 Hypersonics conference proceedings and available in Aerospace Research Central (ARC).

AIAA Hypersonics 2020: Conference Cancellation - Registration and Hotel Reservations

February 29, 2020

Dear Hypersonics 2020 participants,

It has come to our attention that earlier today Le Westin Montréal sent cancellation communications to those with conference hotel reservations. The decision to cancel the conference had not been made by CASI and AIAA when the hotel sent these messages via SMS.

We are sensitive to the worldwide concern regarding the coronavirus infection, and we have been closely monitoring the situation. CASI and AIAA have now made the difficult decision to cancel the 23rd International AIAA Space Planes and Hypersonics Systems and Technology Conference – Hypersonics 2020 that was to be held 10-12 March in Montréal, Québec, Canada.

CASI and AIAA will provide you with updates as they are warranted. Information we can provide as of right now:

  • All paid attendees’ registration fees will be automatically refunded via the original method of payment.
  • It is the responsibility of each participant to cancel his or her hotel room. If you made your reservation at Le Westin Montréal, the hotel will take care of this and you need not take any action yourself. If you have any questions, please contact the hotel directly at 514-380-3333.
  • Please contact your airline as soon as possible as CASI and AIAA cannot be responsible for costs associated with travel
  • For authors with accepted papers, AIAA will contact you regarding next steps.

We apologize for any confusion, and we appreciate your understanding and patience. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact geoffrey@casi.ca or tobeyj@aiaa.org.

Sincerely,

Geoff Languedoc, Executive Director, CASI
Dan Dumbacher, Executive Director, AIAA
