In 1933, Orville Wright became AIAA’s first Honorary Fellow, our highest membership honor. Today, our Honorary Fellows and Fellows are the most respected names in aerospace.

Senior Member

Individuals who have demonstrated a successful professional practice in the arts, sciences, or technology of aeronautics or astronautics for the equivalent of at least eight years. Post baccalaureate engineering or science degrees shall be considered equivalent to professional practice for equivalent number of years, up to a maximum of four (4) years. Other qualifiers are individuals who have at least eight years of continuous professional membership in AIAA.

Access Senior Member Nominations

Associate Fellow

Individuals who have accomplished or been in charge of important engineering or scientific work, or have done original work of outstanding merit, or have otherwise made outstanding contributions to the arts, sciences, or technology of aeronautics or astronautics. A nominee must be an AIAA Senior Member in good standing, have a minimum of 12 years of professional experience, and furnish three references from members at the Associate Fellow grade or higher. Self-nominations are not permitted.

Fellow

Individuals of distinction in aeronautics or astronautics who have made notable valuable contributions to the arts, sciences, or technology of aeronautics or astronautics. Nominees must be an Associate Fellow at the time of the current deadline for Fellow nomination. Four AIAA members in good standing are required to act as references. One reference must be a Fellow or Honorary Fellow, member of the AIAA Council of Directors or Institute Board of Trustees, Section Chairperson, Technical Committee or Program Commitee Chairperson. Self nominations are not permitted.

Honorary Fellow

Individuals of eminence in aeronautics or astronautics distinguished by long and highly contributive careers in the arts, sciences, or technology of aeronautics or astronautics. Nominees must be a Fellow. Five AIAA member references are required.
